Play a mix of fun party games as you switch back and forth between them. Can you handle the chaotic party madness? Join your friends on the couch and online while sadistically laughing at their misfortune. Run, jump and bash your way to glory!
The idea for Marooners was born at the Global Game Jam 2015 in Amsterdam (then called “Paradox in Paradise”). After winning the National Audience and Jury award in the Netherlands, the GGJ team (all independent professional game developers) decided to create a full commercial product together. The team has worked together one day a week for a year to bring the game to completion the summer of 2016.

Marooners - Best Casual Entertainment Game:
We made Marooners because we love party games and would love to play more of these type of games with our non-gamer friends, especially our own girlfriends/boyfriends. Other party games are often too "scary" or hard to pickup and play for the casual gamer audience. Our success at events like PAX East (quick impression here) has shown that literally anyone would pickup and play Marooners: from 3 tough motorbike guys to a few grandparents with their grandchildren.. but also core gamers! Marooners is suitable for a very broad audience, while still offering a deeper experience for core players.
In conclusion: our motivation for the best casual entertainment game is that we succeed in connecting the casual (and non)-gamers with the core-gamers.

Marooners - Best Art Direction:
The art direction of Marooners is a colorful, cartoony artstyle based on a quirky Maya civilization with exotic Caribbean flora. You'll also see the insides of a vulcano, magical arctic ice flavor and much more scenery. It all comes together in one solid art style of which we are very proud! As much as it is a technical-art achievement, it is also a satisfying style that breathes through every element and fits with the chaotic and fun gameplay.
The characters of Marooners received extra care because they are very important in a party game. Players can take control of a variety of funny, cute and happy characters that display an amazing level of animated detail and personality. With their distinct personality everyone can choose his/her favorite character + weapon along with its desired color.
All art was designed with one of our design goals in mind: as we want to approach a bigger audience and bridge a gap between casual and core gamers, the art should appeal to this wide audience as well. The colorful detailed environments and wide selection of characters have succeeded in catching everyone's eye!

Marooners - Best Entertainment Game Design:
We motivate Marooners for best Entertainment Game Design because this is finally a party game that isn't dumbed down with tutorials or too much focus on new players only: Marooners offers enough depth to be enjoyed by core gamers. Even so, Marooners is also very approachable for non-gamers as one of our other design goals was to make sure we could play with our own partners, this is also very much appreciated by the core gamers who want to play more games with their non gamer friends.
As we've seen on live streams and on events like PAX, Marooners covers a broad audience and brings together different types of gamers.

Marooners - Best Music & Audio: The audio of Marooners is made by Bart Delissen, the music by Dave van Luttervelt. Much love has gone into the polish of all sound effects and the musical score. Every minigame in Marooners has its own soundtrack, making every minigame its own experience. The full album of Marooners music can be found here.
