Dinky Diver is the first game by Sword GC, currently being developed for Android. In Dinky Diver you play as a diver trying to set the record of the deepest dive! Every time you play you’ll find yourself in a completely different sea, with different challenges ahead! The game is controlled by a unique tapping mechanism in combination with physics which, in combination with randomly generated levels, makes sure that no single game is ever the same.
Have you ever wanted to defeat the kraken? We’ve got you covered! Whilst diving into the abyss to beat the depth records your friends set you will encounter a variety of different enemies and regularly be stopped by the king of the deep.
Best Student Game: Dinky Diver is the first product of our student start-up company called "Sword GC". The company was founded this year while working on the game. The team consists of 3 students; 2 programmers and 1 artist. We have worked on the game for over a year now. At first the game was originally a project outside of school with the goal to become a portfolio piece to show off our skills.
It soon became more than just a portfolio piece. The first playable version was fun to play and we received quite a bit of positive feedback. Hence we decided to take the game to the next level and eventually release it on the Play Store. On the technical side of the game we were focused on creating a smooth gameplay experience that would also be polished. From the playful scaling of buttons within the main menu, to the impactful tapping of the Kraken eyes, every part of the has received a nice amount of polish. Since Dinky Diver is an Android game, we had to focus a lot on optimizing. The result is a smooth running game!
Visually the goal was to create colorful and bright 2D vector graphics. The style we went with is a cartoony style. Since we chose an underwater theme, our artist created vibrant coral reefs, smooth moving underwater plants and colorful creatures. Resulting in a beautiful and charming looking environment.
Every bit of design within the game was a team effort since we have no dedicated designer. Ranging from enemy behavior to ad placement within the game, all decisions were made as team. This results in a free game with non-intrusive ad placement, which ensures that players can enjoy the game without ever seeing one advertisement.
