It’s the zoo keeper’s first day, and things are going wrong already. Help him save the zoo! Created by a team of 2 artists and 2 programmers as an educational game for technical museum ‘T HEIM, Hengelo Industry Museum. The goal is to teach the player (aimed at the age 6-14) the uses of electromagnetic devices. We took the opportunity to have our hand at a low poly art style, paired with PBR shading and GI to create something visual appealing.

Safe The Zoo is a fun game created for the technical museum ’t HEIM, Hengelo Industry Museum, currently housed in the renovated former Wilhelmina school, which illustrates the history of companies like Stork (pumps and engines), Hemaf (electrical equipment) and Hollandse Signaalapparaten (RADAR equipment). Several schools visit the technical museum every morning and afternoon. According to ’t HEIM, there are 40 kids a day coming by, 5 days a week, that’s 200 kids a week playing our game! The goal is to teach children, between the ages of 6 and 14, about the history and future of radio wave based technology. Safe The Zoo is about the zoo keeper’s first day and things are going totally wrong already! To save the zoo, the zoo keeper has 3 different kind of electromagnetic devices. You need to use the different devices in several quests that are located in all kinds of area of the zoo.

The project assignment was to create a fun game +/- 5 minutes using touchscreen input device to learn children about the history and future of radio waves based technology. The artists took the opportunity to have their hand at a low poly art style, paired with PBR shading and GI to create something visual appealing.
