Batventure is a game created by a group of 7 students at Saxion Enschede. The game was made for Techniek Museum HEIM in Hengelo and uses a touch screen as input device.
In the game you play as a bat that has to go out of his cave looking for food, he uses his sonar to detect hidden obstacles and overcomes unique challenges all throughout the game. Since the game is located at a museum we chose for short game time and fully designed art in each level to create a unique experience for the player.
The game is created for kids aged from 6 to 14 years and was meant to learn kids about radiowaves. We choose to use sonar as our main mechanic in the game to teach kids about why bats use sonar.
Best Student Game
Batventure is created with design and gameplay up front. It is created in 8 weeks with a team of 2 programmers, 2 designers and 3 creatives. The game had to be a short game that'd probably be only played once inside the museum so we really want the player to experience something. The combination of art and good gameplay makes most of our target group leave with a smile!
