Skip a Beat is the world’s first mobile game to use your heart rate as the controller.
Having learned the secret of flying, Skip is a frog on a mission. He has to save his beloved princess Euphoria, dodging floating islands and aggressive birds. Filling his cheeks with air, Skip hops through the sky with his beating heart of love.
That’s where you come in: by tapping the screen you help Skip finding his way and avoiding obstacles, endless runner style. If your heart rate is in the right range (depending on the game mode) your score is multiplied. Keeping your heart rate up or down really makes the difference.
Skip a Beat is the result of 1.5 year of development, 4 different prototypes and intensive learning from the feedback of very helpful and generous partners.
Technical category The Happitech teams combines game design with high tech engineering (Game Designer from Sint Lucas, artists from Media College, Aerospace engineer from TU Delft, Neuroimaging engineer from MIT, software developers and healthcare consultants from Ordina) to create a game that adapts to your state without the need of an additional wearable using only your Iphone with an accuracy that comes close to a medical heart-rate monitor.
The technology behind Skip a Beat offers many possibilities, from health & fitness to dating, chat and gaming apps, think of an truly Angry Angry Birds! Happitech aims to work with the developer community to create a range of useful and innovative solutions.
Serious Game Category Skip a Beat is a game that teaches you to master you mood from Zen to Spicy and creating a sense of awareness in a fun way. Similar games have made use of wearables to provide biofeedback (or a lot of tiresome manual input). These wearables require an additional 60-80 euro investment from the player beside the cost of the game. This has hindered the scalability of such trainings seen the high upfront investment. Happitech aims make coaching available to the masses turning your mobile phone into your personal life coach.
