The motivation for why we think our work deserves an award is three-fold: 1) The technical part of getting the original title properly working on PlayStation and especially PS Vita was insanely difficult, not in the least because the original technology used was XNA and programming had been done in C#. What we ended up doing was writing and maintaining tools for converting all C# code to C++ *and* we implemented our own version of the XNA run-time for PlayStation. This way we could guarantee an exact replica of all game play behaviour unlike some efforts carried out by colleague porting teams that resort to remaking game titles where more often than not game play behaviours get lost in translation. 2) A substantial part of the PlayStation / Rogue Legacy community considers our adaptations to be better than the original game. Presumably this is because we got an unprecedented steady frame rate locked to 60 fps, even on PS Vita; we iterated on controller design like crazy; and we added the following to the PlayStation versions exclusively: - Touch pad support on PS4 for quick peeking on the map - Light bar support on PS4 responding to choices made in-game - Cloud saving slots (play on PS4, then take the game and progress on the road with PS Vita) - Trophy support - Custom character traits: Prosopagnosia and Clonus - Localization support and implementation in 8 extra languages - Activity messages - Rich presence 3) We were able to deliver on time and budget while even carrying out extra work like compiling E3 / GDC demos and whatnot for Cellar Door Games. Because of the above we’re already porting the game to Xbox One and we'll soon be helping Cellar Door Games replacing their original game with our version on PC!
