In Metrico, a 3D sidescrolling puzzle platformer, the player needs to traverse the game world, which is built from all sorts of infographics, like bar diagrams, pie charts, line graphs, etc. These infographics constantly change based on your actions, movements and input.
Imagine a bar shooting up in the sky when you fire a projectile, while another shrinks with every step you move. A pie chart may embody the times you have died and a triangle plot shows the relation between your horizontal and vertical movement of your PS Vita. all of these rules are unique for each puzzle and need to be figured out by the player.
You will have to analyze and experiment with the world presented, while your reflexes, intuition and smarts are being tested. The challenge of the game lies within figuring out what each infographic conveys and being able to think outside of the box.
We really feel we made a unique game and we're very proud of how Metrico turned out and how far it has gotten since its birth in Hilversum at the Global Game Jam in 2011. In a genre that is generally somewhat cluttered we managed to find a very different and distinctive approach and amaze people along with it. Metrico is game that is hard to explain, but in all of its minimalism easy to understand. with Its elegant but meaningful visual style and hypnotic music we feel we created a very coherent end product. It has been received well by both our audience and Sony which helps us getting the traction, financial means and foremost the confidence in making more of these unique games.
